Sabish Bands
The Sabish Band Program is under the direction of DIRECTOR. Currently, over one-fourth of the school body participates in a band ensemble. The goal of Sabish Bands is to prepare our instrumentalists with the tools and knowledge they need to move into band at the high school and continue beyond. We hope to develop a lifelong love of music and to expand their musical ability through performance. There are three bands (sixth, seventh, and eighth grade) and one jazz band. The bands perform throughout the city and state and have appeared at numerous venues including the Beyond the Notes Music Festival at the Kalahari in the Wisconsin Dells.
As part of the New Music Initiative project, Sabish Bands premiered a new commission by composer Michael Sweeney in 2017 and a new commission by composer Randall Standridge in 2019. Most recently, they premiered Kelijah Dunton's "Morning Snow" in May 2021. The 2023 project is yet to be announced.

The Sabish Bands are a part of the Sabish Middle School Music Department, a vibrant program which features numerous opportunities for students. Over 50% of the student body is enrolled in band, choir, and/or orchestra.

Fundraising
Sabish Band has three annual fundraisers; summer, fall and spring.

The Fondy Bands Annual Mattress Sale is in August each year. This is a huge fundraiser for us, and all we have to do is advertise, and bring people to the sale.

The fall citrus sale is in November each year, with delivery in early December. Sell apples and oranges to everyone you know!

The spring Kringles & Coffee sale happens in March, with delivery in April.

**All fundraising Sabish band students do during the year will add to their personal fundraising account which can be used for any music-related payments (examples: field trips, reeds, valve oil, instrument upgrades).

New Music Initiative
The Sabish Bands New Music Initiative is a project designed to give Sabish Middle School 7th and 8th grade band students the opportunity to take part in the creation of a new work written for middle school band. Students play an active role in the process of the creation of a new musical composition. Every two years, a nationally prominent band composer will be commissioned to write a work specifically designed for our ensemble. Students will use critical thinking skills in brainstorming and researching potential concepts for the work. The composer will choose their favorite student-created concept and write the composition. Throughout the school year, students will take part in a variety of learning activities that are both musical and non-musical in nature, allowing students to further study the concept, and experience learning targets that integrate with a variety of subject areas. The new, commissioned work will be written with our students’ needs and talents in mind. Therefore, the composition will be designed to be differentiated for our ensemble.
